Every Christmas, Olly’s mother gave him a whole year’s worth of socks.
And every year, one by one, Olly would lose all his socks in the laundry.
Olly never knew how the socks disappeared. He only knew he’d throw a dozen in the washing machine in the morning, and when he pulled his clothes from the dryer at night, his dozen socks would be down to eleven.
So even though he started the year with thirty pairs of socks, he always ended it with only a few pairs still together. Most of the pairs had lost one or both socks.
Olly looked at his mother and asked, “Where do all the socks go?” She smiled and said, “Do you really want to know?” Olly nodded.
